Winry didn't know what happened in Central City, only that something had. There had been a radio program with officials talking, who kept saying, "Everything is going to be fine," and "We have this under control," but whatever had happened there proved no one was in control. She didn't know if there was an alchemist involved, whether another country had attacked. She did know the radios were out and there were weird things happening - Mr. Culbertson, who brought around the milk, said the next town over, some strangers had attacked the train.
Granny still had customers and she wasn't going to leave them without her service. She bundled herself up and hired a horse to take her there. "Be safe," she told Winry.
So Winry was home alone, with work to do and the knowledge something strange was happening Out There.
