After the wedding, Edward and Winry return to Risembool, though Ed continued his traveling - though his trips shortened with the birth of the first Rockbell-Elric child. By the time the second one came, they'd settled in, living what passed for a quiet life in the countryside.
Which meant helping when the river flooded, rounding up lost sheep and cattle, farming, and taking care of the children in amongst researching and writing papers (Ed) and designing and creating automail (Winry). Visitors to their house were common, whether from neighbors, fellow Amestrians, or visiting (hungry) Xingese.
On a pretty spring day, when the tulips and irises bloomed, Winry sat on the stoop of the house, enjoying a relatively quiet day. The kids played together on a blanket and on top of Ed, who'd laid down to read, though with two kids, reading had to take a back seat to play. Winry listened to the squeals from the kids and the growls from Ed - mostly play and pretend - but she caught sight of something down the road. Shading her eyes with her hand, she said, "I think we're going to have a visitor, Ed."
